While High School Years' new features are all intriguing, easily the most significant change coming to The Sims 4 this month is something all players will be able to use regardless of whether they purchase the pack or not: the long-requested implementation of sexual and romantic orientation mechanics. While high school will involve two classes a day (which will improve different skills), Sims have plenty of new options for socializing or approaching student life in their own way. Teens will attend Copperdale High School, located in the new world of Copperdale, where they can do far more than just attend class.
The pack turns high school from a rabbit hole to a fleshed-out location Simmers can visit, similar to existing careers that let players actually interact with the environment and other Sims. The teenage years are all about self-discovery and forging one's own path, whether that involves studying to excel academically, going on dates, or causing mischief. CBR was able to attend a preview for the expansion, and the overview and gameplay deep-dive showed how the developers are replicating the modern adolescent experience with new activities and gameplay improvements.
Though that may be disappointing for those who prefer to play young adult and older Sims, the pack itself makes the case for giving teens a chance. As expected, High School Years is pretty much laser-focused on one life stage.
